SOLUTION YARRA SERIES RACE 1 RESULTS - WARRANDYTE

Ordette Webster, Sunday, 14 March 2010

Beautiful sunshine, enough water and lots of eager paddlers.

The weather was perfect, there was enough water and lots of eager paddlers to make our first race of the series a success.

It was wonderful to see so many new paddlers and parents who enjoyed their first Yarra Series. We welcome all those newcomers and look forward to seeing you in May for our next race.

We thank all the many volunteers who worked tirelessly throughout the day. Your efforts are always greatly appreciated.

For paddlers wishing to record their improvement over the series, check out your base score percentage for this race and try to improve upon it next race.

The base score is the fastest paddler on the day which was Warwick Draper with a time of 84.36, closely contested by Chris Guinea with a time of 84.53.

MC1 - Warwick Draper again put in a strong run to record the fastest C1 time of the day with a time of 96.12.

LK1 was taken out by Dita Pahl whose second run set the benchmark for the women with a time of 99.61, closely contested by Maggie Webster with a time of 100.78.

Maggie Webster scored the fastest LC1 time of the day with a time of 120.03.

Mens C2 was taken out by Team Guinea with a class time of 94.45.

LC2 saw Annie Tolmay and Maddie Cochrane record the fastest time of the day and in the Mixed C2, Krystal Davis and Roy Farrance recorded the fastest time with a 135.51.

Thanks also to our sponsor, SOLUTION, for their ongoing support.

Next race: Finn's Reserve, 16 May

Selection of overseas athletes to represent Australia - Letter from Greg Doyle

Andrew Fegan, Saturday, 27 February 2010

    Selection of overseas athletes

Greg Doyle has released this open letter to explain Australia Canoeing selection policy on overseas athletes to represent Australia

    **********************************************************************************************************************************************

    Dear all,

Please note the following advice. It will be placed on the AC website as soon as practical.

     Lucien Delfour – Selection Eligibility

Under the Australian Canoeing Selection Procedures Bylaw, to be eligible for selection to a national team, an athlete must first:

satisfy AC's CEO that s/he meets or will meet the ICF's eligibility requirements (if any); and

satisfy AC's CEO that s/he is a financial individual member of AC; and

not have any outstanding accounts with AC that are more than 30-days in arrears; and

complete and sign the applicable application form, including the acknowledgement that s/he will abide by the AC Team Member Bylaw; and

pay the non-refundable $70.00 selection application fee.

The ICF Canoe Slalom Competition Rules (i.e. the ICF's eligibility requirements) provide as follows:

3.3.1 A competitor may take part on behalf of the Federation in a foreign country in which he/she is domiciled, if he/she obtains the authorisation of his/her Federation of origin. This authorisation has to be sent before 30th November prior to the year concerned to the ICF Headquarters with a copy to the Chair of the Canoe Slalom Committee. The same procedure applies, should the competitor change back his/her starting right to the Federation of origin.

Lucien Delfour has met each of the above criteria and is therefore eligible for selection under the Australian Canoeing Selection Procedures Bylaw.

The relevant national teams will be selected by the Selection Panel in accordance with the Australian Canoeing Selection Procedures Bylaw and Selection Criteria Supplement.

Greg Doyle, CEO, 27th February 2010

Cancelled - Trip to NZ National Schools Whitewater Competition, 26 Mar - 7 Apr, 2010

Andrew Fegan, Friday, 26 February 2010

    CANCELLED

Kim Rockman and Jackie Handley regret that the proposed organised trip to NZ to compete in the New Zealand National Schools Whitewater Championships over Easter will not proceed.  Whilst there was some interest amongst Victorian slalom paddlers, there was insufficient numbers to justify an organised tour.
